The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has formally announced the date for its 52nd Matriculation Ceremony for students admitted into the 2025/2026 academic session. The event, which officially welcomes new students into the university community, has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Matriculation marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of newly admitted students, as they will take the official oath of studentship and become recognized members of the institution.

Event Details

The ceremony will be conducted across the university’s three campuses to accommodate the large number of freshmen.

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. (Guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m.)
Venues: Faculty-designated locations at Nsukka, Enugu (UNEC), and Ituku-Ozalla campuses

Rather than holding a single centralized event, the university has opted for a faculty-based arrangement to ensure proper coordination and a more organized experience. Freshmen are advised to confirm their specific venue through their respective Faculty Offices.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, who assumed office in August 2025 as the institution’s 16th Vice-Chancellor, will oversee the ceremony.

Requirements for Participation

All newly admitted students must complete the necessary formalities before participating in the ceremony. These include:

1. Payment of Fees

Students must ensure that all required payments for the 2025/2026 academic session, including acceptance and other school charges, have been fully processed and confirmed on the university portal.

2. Clearance Process

Freshmen are required to present original copies of essential documents such as O’Level results, JAMB admission letter, and birth certificate for verification at their faculty offices.

3. Collection of Academic Gowns

Matriculation gowns will be available for collection from faculty offices beginning Monday, March 2, 2026. Students must pay the prescribed hiring fee before collection.

4. Oath and Signing of Register

During the ceremony, students will formally take the matriculation oath and sign the official register, a crucial record confirming their legal status as students of the university.

Important Information for Parents and Guests

Parents, guardians, and invited guests are welcome to attend and celebrate this important academic milestone. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as parking spaces close to faculty venues will be limited. Seating arrangements are expected to be finalized by 9:30 a.m. to allow the academic procession to commence on schedule.

The university management congratulates all newly admitted students fondly referred to as the “Lions and Lionesses” of the Class of 2026 and wishes them a memorable matriculation ceremony and a successful academic journey at UNN.
