The University of Ibadan (UI) has officially wrapped up its Post-UTME screening for the 2025/2026 academic session, concluding a week of intense competition among thousands of aspiring students.
More than 14,000 candidates applied for various undergraduate programmes at Nigeria’s premier university. However, only fewer than 5,000 applicants will be admitted, in line with the institution’s quota approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Last session, just 4,215 candidates secured admission, highlighting the intense competition for a place at UI.
The screening exercise, which ended on Wednesday, was supervised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Peter Olapegba, alongside other top university officials. Medical staff from the university’s health centre were also on ground to provide necessary support throughout the process.
Parents and guardians expressed mixed feelings—hopeful for their wards, yet aware that the limited number of available slots means only the highest-performing candidates will gain admission.
For many students, the end of the screening marks the start of an anxious waiting period as they look forward to the release of Post-UTME results and admission lists.
With the exercise now concluded, the next phase will involve the university’s admission office screening scores and finalising the selection of successful candidates for the upcoming academic year.
