The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has officially confirmed when academic activities will resume for the 2025/2026 academic session. The announcement includes clear timelines for resumption, registration for fresh and returning students, and the commencement of lectures.
The decision was approved by the University Senate and communicated through a circular issued by the Office of the Registrar.
Official Approval Behind the Resumption Schedule
The resumption timetable was endorsed at the 321st meeting of the UNIMAID Senate, which held on Thursday, 13 November 2025. The circular conveying this decision was signed by the Deputy Registrar and Director of Senate and Academic Matters, Mrs. Zara Umar Ibrahim.
Students are advised to strictly follow the approved schedule to avoid registration or academic delays.
UNIMAID Resumption Date for 2025/2026
UNIMAID will formally reopen for the new academic session on:
Thursday, 15 January 2026
This date marks the beginning of on-campus activities for the session and applies to all categories of students.
Registration Timeline for Students
To ensure smooth coordination, registration has been arranged in phases:
Fresh (New) Students
- Registration begins: Thursday, 15 January 2026
Newly admitted students are expected to begin clearance and registration immediately upon resumption.
Returning Students
- Registration begins: Monday, 26 January 2026
Returning students are advised not to attempt registration before their designated date.
This staggered approach helps reduce congestion and improves efficiency during the registration period.
When Lectures Will Begin
Full academic activities will commence on:
Monday, 2 February 2026
From this date, lectures will begin for both new and returning students, marking the official start of teaching for the 2025/2026 session.
