UNIJOS Sets Date for 2025/2026 Freshers’ Matriculation Ceremony

UNIVERSITY OF JOS

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has officially announced arrangements for the matriculation ceremony for students admitted into the 2025/2026 academic session. The event marks the formal induction of new undergraduates into the university community and confirms their full status as registered members of the institution.

Parents, guardians, and members of the public are invited to witness this milestone as the university welcomes its newest students into its academic tradition.

Ceremony Details at a Glance

All matriculating students are expected to take note of the official schedule:

  • Date: Thursday, 5 February 2026
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. (sharp)
  • Venue: Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium, Naraguta Campus

Students are advised to arrive early, preferably by 8:30 a.m., to allow enough time for coordination and seating before the academic procession begins.

Faculty Procession Requirement

One of the highlights of the event is the academic procession. New students will line up according to their faculties and move into the auditorium in an organized sequence led by university officials.

Participation in this procession is compulsory. Students who arrive late or fail to join their faculty group may be denied entry into the hall, which could affect their matriculation status.

Academic Gown and Dressing Guidelines

Every matriculating student must appear in the official university gown.

Gown Collection

Students should visit their respective faculty offices to complete clearance and obtain their academic gowns. Proof of fee payment or other administrative documents may be required.

Dress Code

The gown must be worn over formal clothing:

  • Male students: Corporate wear such as a suit or dress shirt with a tie
  • Female students: Modest formal dresses or suits

The university reserves the right to deny participation to any student whose appearance does not meet its standards of decent dressing.

The Matriculation Oath and Official Records

During the ceremony, students will recite the matriculation oath, pledging loyalty to the university’s values and commitment to responsible conduct.

Afterward, students must proceed to sign the Matriculation Register at their faculty offices. This record serves as permanent proof of a student’s formal entry into the University of Jos and may be required for future academic documentation, including transcripts and degree verification.

Guidelines for Guests and Visitors

To ensure order and safety on campus, the university has outlined the following measures:

  • Parking: Vehicles must be parked only in designated areas
  • Security: Routine checks may be conducted at campus entry points
  • Photography: Photos and videos are allowed, but photographers must not disrupt the procession or official proceedings
Important Notes for Fresh Students
