
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) invites applications from qualified candidates for admission into its various postgraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. Programmes available include Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s Degrees, Master of Philosophy (M.Phil), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) across the Schools, Faculties, Institutes, and Centres of the University.
General Admission Requirements
- Applicants must have at least five (5) credit passes in WASC, NECO, GCE O’Level or equivalent qualifications.
- Candidates with four credits at O’Level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB or A-Level passes may also be considered.
- Pass degrees or diplomas are not acceptable.
- Holders of third-class degrees must possess a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) before applying for a Master’s programme.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree and a Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55–59% are eligible only for the M.Phil programme initially.
- Applicants for Ph.D programmes must have a minimum WAS of 60% in their Master’s degree. Candidates from other universities who have not completed equivalent compulsory courses at UNIBEN will be required to take and pass them (minimum 60%).
- NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate is mandatory for clearance into the postgraduate programme.
Referee Reports
Applicants must print and complete the referee forms available on the application portal. Referees are to send completed forms directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies. Applications will not be processed without referee reports.

- Some courses may require a written entrance examination—check the UNIBEN website regularly for updates.
- Use your personal email and phone number during application to ensure smooth communication.
Method of Application
- Purchase the application form online using a valid VERVE or MasterCard ATM card for ₦22,000.00.
- Complete the form online accurately, submit, and print out your application and referee forms from the UNIBEN portal.
- All application processes must be completed by 30th November, 2025.
Acceptance Fee
Successful candidates must pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of ₦60,000.00 before proceeding for clearance.
