Taraba State University, Jalingo, has introduced a compulsory digital onboarding programme for newly admitted students in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The initiative, coordinated by the Directorate of ICT/MIS, combines Student Portal Orientation with a Computer-Based Test (CBT) Mock Examination to prepare freshers for the university’s technology-driven academic system.

This exercise is designed to help students confidently navigate online registration processes and adapt to computer-based assessments before the first semester intensifies.

Programme Schedule and Venue

The orientation and mock examination will run for three days:

  • Dates: Tuesday, 17 February – Thursday, 19 February 2026
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily
  • Venue: University CBT Centre, Main Campus, Jalingo

To ensure orderliness, participation will follow a faculty-based schedule. Students are advised to confirm their assigned batch and time through departmental notice boards or official faculty communication platforms. Entry may be restricted outside designated time slots due to space limitations.

Phase One: Student Portal Orientation

The first segment focuses on familiarising students with the university’s online portal, which serves as the central platform for academic and administrative activities.

During the session, ICT personnel will guide students through:

  • Profile Updates: Uploading passport photographs and verifying personal data for accurate documentation.
  • Course Registration: Selecting approved courses, confirming credit loads, and printing registration forms.
  • Fee Verification: Linking Remita payment receipts to confirm payment status for exam clearance.
  • Result Access: Checking semester grades and monitoring CGPA progression.

Proper understanding of the portal is essential, as most academic processes are now fully digitised.

Phase Two: CBT Mock Examination

The second phase introduces students to the university’s electronic testing environment through a practice-based mock exam.

The mock session will cover:

  • Login Procedures: Using matriculation or JAMB registration numbers to access the testing platform.
  • Navigation Tools: Operating “Next,” “Previous,” “Flag,” and “Submit” options.
  • Time Monitoring: Understanding the on-screen timer and automatic submission feature.
  • Technical Guidance: Responding appropriately to system interruptions or minor technical issues.

This hands-on practice is intended to reduce anxiety and improve confidence before real examinations.

Participation Requirements and Conduct

The university has made participation mandatory for all newly admitted students.

Students must attend with:

  • Their Admission Letter
  • A valid form of identification

Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and programmable calculators are prohibited inside the CBT hall. Participants are expected to comply strictly with instructions from ICT officials and exam proctors.

Support for Technical Issues

Students experiencing portal challenges including login errors or incomplete course listings can visit the ICT/MIS Directorate Complex for assistance after their scheduled batch session.

Through this initiative, Taraba State University reinforces its commitment to digital literacy and smooth academic integration for all fresh students.
