The Rivers State University (RSU) has announced official guidelines for its 44th Matriculation Ceremony for students admitted into the 2025/2026 academic session. The information outlines the ceremony schedule, how and when to collect academic gowns, the return deadline, and the penalties attached to late submission.
The notice, issued through the Office of the Acting Registrar, is aimed at ensuring a smooth and well-organized matriculation process for all newly admitted students.
Ceremony Details
Fresh students are expected to attend the matriculation ceremony as scheduled below:
- Date: Wednesday, 28th January 2026
- Time: 9:00 a.m.
- Venue: RSU Convocation Arena
This event marks the formal acceptance of new students into the Rivers State University academic community.
Gown Collection Start Date
Students can begin collecting their gowns from:
- Friday, 23rd January 2026
Early collection is strongly advised to avoid queues and last-minute delays.
Requirements for Gown Collection
Before a gown can be issued, students must present the following:
- Proof of payment for acceptance and other compulsory fees
- Two recent passport-sized photographs
- A printed copy of the online admission letter
- A valid residential address and active phone number
Students who fail to provide any of these documents may experience delays.
Deadline for Gown Return
RSU has set a firm date for the return of academic gowns:
- On or before Friday, 30th January 2026
All gowns must be returned through the same faculty channel used for collection.
Late Return Penalty
Students who miss the return deadline will be charged a daily fine:
- ₦5,000 per day
- This daily penalty applies for a maximum of one week
Delays can quickly become expensive, so timely return is strongly recommended.
Portal Deactivation After One Week
If a gown is not returned within one week after the deadline:
- The student’s online portal will be deactivated
- Access will only be restored after payment of a fixed ₦10,000 reopening fee
This fee is non-negotiable and applies regardless of the number of days delayed beyond the one-week period.
