Northwest University Kano Adjusts Mid-Semester Break for 2024/2025 Session

NORTHWEST UNI KANO

Northwest University, Kano (Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano) has announced a revision to its academic calendar for the ongoing Second Semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to an official circular released by the university management, the previously scheduled mid-semester break has been rescheduled. The adjustment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, is aimed at ensuring adequate lecture coverage and proper preparation ahead of the second semester examinations.

The decision reflects the university’s effort to maintain academic stability and improve overall performance standards.

Updated Academic Schedule

Students and staff are advised to take note of the revised timeline below:

  • Mid-Semester Break: Monday, 16 February – Sunday, 21 February 2026
  • Second Semester Examinations: Monday, 23 February – Saturday, 14 March 2026

The one-week break is intended to serve as a revision period, giving students time to consolidate lecture materials and prepare thoroughly for examinations.

Examinations will commence immediately after the break and run for three weeks.

What This Means for Students

University management has encouraged students to make productive use of the break rather than treating it as an extended holiday. With exams beginning on 23 February, students are expected to:

  • Review lecture notes and course materials
  • Clarify unresolved academic issues with lecturers
  • Confirm examination schedules and venue details

Students are also advised to return to campus promptly before examinations begin, as failure to sit for exams without valid reasons may attract penalties in line with university regulations.

Directives to Academic and Administrative Units

The official notice was circulated to key university officers to ensure smooth implementation across all faculties and departments.

  • Deans and Heads of Departments have been directed to conclude lectures before the break begins.
  • Continuous Assessment (CA) scores must be uploaded before examinations commence.
  • The ICT Directorate is expected to update the university portal to reflect the revised calendar and examination details.
  • The Student Affairs Division and Public Relations Unit are tasked with ensuring students are adequately informed.

This coordinated approach is designed to prevent confusion and ensure academic activities proceed without disruption.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

The calendar adjustment aligns with the university’s broader goal of strengthening academic delivery under the leadership of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero.

By strategically positioning the break just before examinations, the university aims to maintain academic focus and reduce interruptions that could affect students’ performance.

Final Reminder

All students and staff are urged to strictly adhere to the revised dates. The university has made it clear that the updated schedule should be treated as official and binding.

Northwest University, Kano remains committed to upholding discipline, structure, and academic excellence as it rounds off the 2024/2025 session.
