Delta State University (DELSU) has received a substantial loan disbursement from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), offering timely financial relief to hundreds of students.

The intervention is expected to ease tuition-related pressures and allow beneficiaries to focus more fully on their academic pursuits.

The funds were credited to the university on January 13, 2026, with a total sum of ₦392,876,550.00 released.

A total of 1,854 students benefited from the loan support. The amount—Three Hundred and Ninety-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty Naira—was allocated directly to assist eligible students in meeting their educational expenses.

This large-scale disbursement marks another step in NELFUND’s ongoing effort to expand financial access to higher education across Nigeria.

Official Acknowledgment from DELSU

In a formal letter dated January 20, 2026, the Registrar of the university, Mrs. Rufina U. Ufiofio, acknowledged receipt of the funds on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba.

The university confirmed that the loan package would significantly reduce financial strain for the affected students, enabling them to concentrate better on their studies.

Recognition of NELFUND’s Initiative

DELSU also expressed appreciation for the initiative, commending NELFUND for its continued commitment to improving access to tertiary education in Nigeria.

The institution noted that such partnerships play a crucial role in strengthening the education sector and supporting students who might otherwise struggle to finance their studies.

Broader Impact on Nigeria’s Education Sector

NELFUND’s intervention at DELSU reflects a broader national push to expand educational opportunities. With billions of naira reportedly disbursed to institutions and students across the country, the programme continues to make higher education more accessible.

While financial challenges remain for many families, initiatives like this are helping to reduce barriers and create pathways for academic advancement. For thousands of students, the support translates into stability, focus, and renewed confidence in pursuing their educational goals.
