Important Notice from FUTA on Admission Scam Attempts

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has issued a strong warning to the public particularly admission seekers about the growing number of fraudulent individuals posing as university representatives. These impostors circulate misleading messages and social media posts claiming they can manipulate the Post-UTME Screening Exercise or guarantee admission slots in exchange for money.

According to FUTA, such claims are entirely false. The individuals behind these messages are scammers whose aim is to deceive parents, guardians, and candidates by requesting payments into personal bank accounts and directing people to suspicious phone numbers. The university stresses that no person whether inside or outside the institution has the authority to alter screening results or influence the admission process.

All admissions are strictly based on merit and processed through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) using standard guidelines.

FUTA Reaffirms Its Admission Procedures

The university emphasizes that its admission process is transparent and cannot be manipulated.

  • Screening scores cannot be altered.
  • Staff members are prohibited from offering favours or influencing admission outcomes.
  • Every applicant is evaluated using the same approved system through JAMB.

Therefore, any message suggesting “special connection,” “hidden slots,” or “priority processing” should be dismissed immediately.

Common Tricks Used by Admission Scammers

Applicants are advised to be aware of these frequent tactics used by fraudsters:

  • Sending SMS messages promising guaranteed admission.
  • Posting online that they have access to FUTA officials.
  • Demanding payment into personal bank accounts to “fast-track” admission.
  • Creating urgency through fake deadlines to pressure victims.

These strategies are designed to prey on the desperation and anxiety many candidates feel during the admission season.

How Applicants Can Stay Protected

To avoid falling victim:

  • Depend solely on FUTA’s verified communication channels and JAMB’s updates.
  • Ignore any request for payment to secure admission or influence the screening result.
  • When uncertain, contact the university directly through its official hotlines for confirmation.

FUTA reiterates that anyone who chooses to deal with scammers does so at their own risk, and the university will not be responsible for any financial or personal loss.
