The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has approved an extension of the registration and verification period for students in the 2025/2026 academic session.
With this decision, both newly admitted and returning students now have until Friday, 16 January 2026 to complete all registration requirements.
Why the Deadline Was Extended
The extension followed a review by the university’s Taskforce on Student Registration, which raised concerns about low participation levels. As of 19 December 2025, records showed that only about 50 percent of fresh students had completed their registration. The situation was more worrying among returning students, where less than 10 percent had fully registered.
These figures prompted the university management to step in and allow additional time.
Official Statement from the Registrar
In a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. Ambrose G. Ugwu, the university explained that the extra window was created to help students properly organise their documents and avoid errors caused by rushing the process.
However, the Registrar warned that any student who fails to meet the new deadline may be penalised, with sanctions to be determined by the university authorities.
Implementation Across Faculties
To ensure full compliance, the Registrar directed Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty Officers, ICT representatives, and admission and registration staff to enforce the new deadline across all faculties and units.
All concerned offices are expected to provide the necessary support to students during the extended period.
Final Note to Students
While wishing students a peaceful Christmas celebration, the university advised them to treat registration as a priority and avoid waiting until the last minute.
Completing the process early, the management noted, will help prevent avoidable complications as the session progresses.
