Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has officially announced the date for its 2025/2026 Matriculation Ceremony, a landmark event for newly admitted postgraduate, undergraduate, and diploma students.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 14th February 2026, and represents the formal induction of fresh students into the university community. Beyond the celebration and photo sessions, matriculation at DELSU is a legally binding academic process that confirms a student’s full admission status.
By taking the matriculation oath, students officially transition from provisional admission to recognized members of the university.
Ceremony to Hold Across Two Campuses
Due to DELSU’s multi-campus structure, the matriculation ceremony will take place at both Abraka and Oleh campuses to ensure smooth coordination and participation.

Why Matriculation Matters
While matriculation day often feels festive with academic gowns, photographs, and family celebrations. it carries significant academic and legal importance.
By signing the Matriculation Register and taking the oath, students commit to:
- Maintaining academic honesty and avoiding malpractice or plagiarism
- Rejecting cultism, drug abuse, and disruptive behavior
- Respecting the authority of the university’s leadership and governing bodies
Failure to attend and complete this process may affect a student’s official admission status. A matriculation number, which becomes a student’s permanent identity within the university, is only activated after participation in the ceremony.
Important Guidelines for New Students
To ensure a smooth experience, matriculating students are advised to complete the following:
1. Settle All School Fees
Only students who have fully paid their tuition and other required charges will be permitted to participate. Proof of payment may be required before gown collection.
2. Collect Academic Gowns Early
Gowns will be available at Faculty Officers’ offices. Students are encouraged to collect them at least two days before the ceremony to avoid last-minute congestion. Late return or damage to gowns may attract penalties.
3. Observe Proper Dress Code
Students are expected to dress formally under their academic gowns. Corporate attire or neat traditional outfits are recommended, in line with the university’s dress standards.
Security and Orderliness
To manage the expected influx of visitors, the university’s security team will oversee traffic control and crowd management at both campuses. Parents and guests are advised to use designated parking areas.
The management has also cautioned against any disruption during the academic procession. Matriculation remains a formal university event, and decorum must be maintained throughout the ceremony.
A New Chapter Begins
For postgraduate students, matriculation marks the beginning of advanced research and academic specialization. For undergraduates and diploma students, it signals the start of a structured journey toward graduation and professional growth.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate and Governing Council, has congratulated all newly admitted students and wished them success as they begin their academic journey at Delta State University.
