The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive instructing all public universities in Nigeria to conclude their 2025 admission processes no later than October 31, 2025.
According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday, this directive applies not only to public universities but extends to all tertiary institutions in the country. Specifically:
- Public universities must complete admissions by October 31, 2025
- Private universities have until November 30, 2025
- All other tertiary institutions (both public and private) must conclude by December 31, 2025
These deadlines were approved during the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education. JAMB explained that this move is aimed at promoting fairness, ensuring timely admissions, and helping stabilise Nigeria’s academic calendar across institutions.
Admission Must Be Finalised—Even if Academic Session Hasn’t Started
JAMB further advised that institutions should not delay the admission process, even if they are not ready to begin their new academic session immediately. According to the board:
“Even where an institution is not yet ready to commence the new academic session, such an institution should conduct its admission and archive it.”
This directive is part of broader efforts to standardise academic timelines and improve coordination between the education ministry and higher institutions.
Post-UTME Screenings Must Be Concluded Promptly
Institutions conducting Post-UTME or Direct Entry screening exercises are also urged to complete them without delay to meet the prescribed timelines for finalising admissions.
“Consequently, institutions conducting post-UTME screenings are expected to conclude those exercises in good time to comply with the 2025 admissions schedule,” JAMB stated.
What This Means for Institutions and Candidates
With the 2025 deadlines now officially in place, institutions must act swiftly to:
- Wrap up all admission procedures on or before the respective deadlines
- Avoid delays in Post-UTME or screening processes
- Ensure all admitted candidates are uploaded on JAMB CAPS in time
For applicants, this means faster admission decisions and more predictable academic planning for the 2025/2026 academic session.
