Gombe State University (GOMSU) has officially opened its student registration portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the formal start of academic activities for both newly admitted and returning students.
The announcement was made in a circular released by the Office of the Registrar, confirming that students can now proceed with online registration in line with the university’s digitized enrollment process. The move aligns with the administration’s commitment under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta and Registrar Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bateto to ensure a smooth and efficient academic session.
Registration, the university emphasized, is not just a formality. It is the official process that validates a student’s academic status and eligibility to participate fully in lectures, assessments, and examinations.
Mandatory O’Level Verification for Fresh Students
For newly admitted students, registration begins with a compulsory O’Level result verification. This step must be completed before access to the main registration portal is granted.
Why O’Level Verification Matters
GOMSU operates a strict verification-first policy to confirm that candidates meet admission requirements. The process ensures that results submitted during JAMB registration align with records from recognized examination bodies such as WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
- Verification Portal: verifyolevel.gsu.edu.ng
- Important Note: Fresh students who fail to complete this verification will be unable to generate school fees invoices or register courses, effectively delaying their admission.
Registration Steps for Fresh Students
Once O’Level verification is successfully completed, fresh students can proceed to the main student portal to complete registration.
Step 1: Portal Login
- Portal: student.portal.gsu.edu.ng
- Username: JAMB Registration Number
- Default Password: gsu2026
Students are strongly advised to change the default password immediately after logging in to protect their accounts from unauthorized access.
Step 2: Bio-Data and Profile Update
Fresh students must upload a recent passport photograph and update their contact details. This information is used for:
- Student ID card production
- Official records and transcripts
- University communication and alerts
Students should ensure their phone numbers and email addresses are active and accurate.
Step 3: Payment of Fees and Course Registration
After completing their profile:
- Generate a school fees invoice on the portal
- Make payment using the university’s approved electronic channels
- Proceed to course registration once payment reflects
Students are advised to consult their Departmental or Level Coordinators to avoid registering incorrect courses.
Guidelines for Returning Students
Returning students (Levels 200 and above) are also required to complete registration within the approved timeline.
Portal Access
- Portal: student.portal.gsu.edu.ng
- Username: Matriculation Number
- Password: Existing password (or gsu2026 if unchanged)
Academic Requirements
Returning students must:
- Register all carry-over courses before new electives
- Ensure prerequisite courses are completed
- Comply with Senate-approved academic load regulations
The portal automatically flags unresolved academic issues to prevent errors.
Late Registration and Financial Compliance
The university has cautioned students and parents against delays in registration.
Late Registration Penalty
GOMSU operates a defined normal registration window. Once this period closes:
- Late registration penalties are automatically applied
- Students risk administrative setbacks and academic restrictions
According to the Academic Secretary, Musa Sarki, early registration allows the university to plan lecture schedules, allocate facilities, and finalize class lists efficiently.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to support their wards financially on time to avoid unnecessary stress.
“No Registration, No Examination” Policy
The university reaffirmed its long-standing rule that only fully registered students are eligible to:
- Attend lectures
- Participate in Continuous Assessment (CA)
- Sit for semester examinations
Registration is only considered complete when:
- All fees are paid
- Courses are registered and submitted online
- Course Registration Form (CRF) is printed and endorsed
Failure to meet these requirements may result in a student losing the entire academic session.
Final Reminder to Students
By opening the registration portal early, GOMSU has provided students with enough time to plan their finances and academic workload. University management has urged all students to avoid last-minute registration, which often leads to errors, delays, and avoidable penalties.
As stated in the official release, timely registration is the foundation of a successful academic session.
