JAMB Clarifies: Undergraduates Can Apply for 2026 UTME/DE

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed recent claims suggesting that current undergraduates are ineligible to register for the 2026 UTME or Direct Entry (DE). The Board emphasized that such statements are misleading and do not reflect its official policies.

Eligibility of Current Students
JAMB’s Public Communication Officer, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that students already enrolled in tertiary institutions are allowed to apply for the 2026 UTME/DE. “There is no restriction preventing matriculated candidates from participating,” he clarified.

Requirement to Disclose Existing Admission
While undergraduates can apply, JAMB mandates that candidates fully disclose any existing admission. This disclosure is a regulatory requirement, clearly stated in the official UTME/DE advertisement for 2026.

The purpose of this requirement is to:

  1. Maintain accurate records.
  2. Prevent dual admissions, which is prohibited by law.
  3. Ensure transparency in the admission process.

Dr. Benjamin explained that once a candidate gains admission through the 2026 UTME/DE, any previous admission automatically becomes void.

Consequences of Concealment
The Board warned that failing to disclose a current matriculation status is considered a serious offence. Candidates who intentionally hide this information risk losing both their previous and newly secured admissions. JAMB’s system can detect prior matriculation, but honesty from applicants remains essential.

Advisory to the Public
JAMB cautioned the public against spreading false interpretations of its policies. Dr. Benjamin highlighted that some individuals have misrepresented official guidelines, often for personal gain.

Parents, candidates, and stakeholders were advised to rely only on official JAMB communications for accurate information. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and fair admission process for all applicants.
