DESPO Confirms Matriculation Day for 2025/2026 Fresh Students

DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC, OTEFE OGHARA

The Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara (DESPO) has officially announced the date for its 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony, marking the formal induction of newly admitted students into the institution. The notice, released by the Office of the Registrar and signed by Efedi Chukwuemeke on January 30, 2026, makes it clear that attendance is compulsory for all freshers.

This event represents the moment students move from being “admitted applicants” to becoming recognized and registered members of the Polytechnic community.

Why This Ceremony Is More Than a Formality

Matriculation is the Polytechnic’s official welcome into academic life. During the ceremony, students will take an oath of allegiance to the institution’s values, committing themselves to discipline, academic honesty, and responsible conduct on and off campus.

After the oath, students are expected to sign the Matriculation Register at their respective departments. This record serves as formal proof of enrollment and is recognized by both the Polytechnic and JAMB. Any student who fails to take part in this process risks having their admission status questioned or withdrawn.

What Freshers Must Prepare

To ensure a smooth experience on the day, new students are advised to follow these guidelines carefully:

1. Collection of Academic Gowns

Freshers must pick up their matriculation robes from their Faculty or Departmental Offices. Proof of fee payment and completed registration will be required before a gown is issued.
Gowns must be returned within the deadline set by the school usually the following Monday to avoid penalty charges.

2. Early Arrival and Seating

All matriculating students are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m. to allow for the formal entry of the Academic Procession, which includes the Rector, Deans, and other senior officials.
Late arrivals may be denied access once the ceremony begins.

3. Dress and Conduct Expectations

Students are expected to maintain a neat and respectful appearance:

  • Male students: Formal wear or complete traditional attire beneath the academic gown.
  • Female students: Modest corporate or formal English wear.

The Polytechnic enforces a strict policy on decency, and students who do not meet the dress standard may be turned away at the entrance

Crowd Management and Guest Arrangements

The Registrar has coordinated with the Student Union Government (SUG) and campus security to ensure order and safety throughout the event. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend, but seating priority will be given to matriculating students. Guests are typically directed to designated sections within or around the auditorium.

Final Note to New Students

Matriculation is your official entry point into DESPO’s academic journey. It is not just a ceremony, it is the institutional recognition of your status as a student of the Polytechnic.

Make sure your documents are in order, your gown is collected on time, and you arrive early. Friday, February 13, 2026, is not just a date, it’s the day you formally begin your academic path at Otefe-Oghara.
