The MUTA Education Committee has officially opened applications for the 2026 MUTA Education Scholarship, a merit-based award created to support outstanding undergraduate students pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Medicine, and related health disciplines.
The scholarship is designed to recognize academic excellence while encouraging community involvement and leadership among students from selected states and local government areas.
Number of Awards and Coverage
A total of up to 16 scholarships will be granted for the 2026/2027 academic session. Distribution will follow this structure:
- From the Tiv-speaking Local Government Areas in Benue State (14)
- From Taraba State (1)
- From Nasarawa State (1)
Each eligible location will produce one successful awardee.
Purpose of the Scholarship
The value of each award will be announced after the selection process is concluded. Funds may be applied strictly toward education-related expenses, including:
- Tuition and academic fees
- Research materials and project costs
- Other approved undergraduate study expenses
Who Can Apply
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
Academic Programme and Status
- Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate programme
- Course of study must fall within STEM, Medicine, or an allied medical field
Academic Performance
Applicants must maintain at least one of the following minimum academic standards:
- 3.5 CGPA on a 5.0 grading scale, or
- 3.0 CGPA on a 4.0 grading scale
Applicants who do not meet this benchmark will not be reviewed, regardless of their standing within their local government area.

Applications must be submitted online through the official MUTA Scholarship portal. All required documents must be uploaded as part of the submission process.

Required Documents
Applicants are expected to provide the following materials:
1. Personal Statement
A two-page, double-spaced essay explaining why you should be selected. The statement should address:
- Academic background and achievements
- Involvement in community service
- Career ambitions
- Financial need
2. Certificate of Origin
An official document issued by the applicant’s State or Local Government confirming place of origin.
3. CGPA Verification Form
Applicants must download and print the official CGPA form, which must be completed and signed by the Head of Department or Academic Officer at their institution.

Applications submitted without this completed form will not be considered.
Selection Process
Eligible submissions will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Academic Performance (CGPA): 50%
- Quality of Personal Statement: 40%
- Community Involvement: 10%
Any application found to contain false or misleading information will be automatically disqualified.
Application Deadline
All completed applications and supporting documents must be submitted no later than:
11:59 PM, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (US EST, GMT-5)
Late entries will not be reviewed.
Notification of Results
Successful candidates will be contacted via email. Names of award recipients will also be published on the official MUTA website and shared across MUTA Education’s verified social media channels during the second or third week of June.
Award Ceremony and Media Consent
The formal presentation of the scholarships is scheduled for July or August. Final details will be communicated in advance.
Recipients must agree to the use of their photographs and images for official and promotional purposes.
