The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced the temporary reopening of its course registration portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The decision provides students with another opportunity to complete their first-semester course registration.
The reopening was approved by the Vice-Chancellor and communicated through an official memo from the Office of the Registrar, dated 12 January 2026.
Why the UNIZIK Portal Was Reopened
According to the university management, the reopening is intended to allow students who were unable to complete their course registration earlier to regularise their records. It also enables the university to finalise academic planning ahead of the first-semester examinations.
Students who are yet to register are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this window to avoid penalties or loss of academic privileges.
Main Course Registration Period
The course registration portal will be accessible for a limited period as outlined below:
1 Registration opens: Monday, 12 January 2026
2 Registration closes: Sunday, 25 January 2026
This two-week window serves as the standard registration period for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Late Registration Window and Penalties
Students who fail to complete their registration within the main period will still be allowed to register, but with penalties.
Late registration period:
- Monday, 26 January 2026
- Thursday, 12 February 2026
Late registration attracts additional charges, as stipulated by the university. Students are advised not to wait until this stage unless absolutely necessary.
Final Deadline for First Semester Registration
UNIZIK has made it clear that the course registration portal will close completely for first-semester registration after the late window.
Final closure date: Friday, 13 February 2026
Once the portal closes on this date, no further registration will be permitted for the first semester, regardless of circumstances.
Link Between Registration and Examinations
The university explained that the registration timeline is directly tied to preparations for examinations.
First semester examinations begin: Monday, 2 March 2026
Accurate registration records are required for exam scheduling, attendance lists, and result processing. Students who fail to register risk being excluded from examinations.
Important Instructions to Students
UNIZIK management has advised all affected students to:
- Log into the course registration portal immediately
- Complete and submit all required course details
- Avoid waiting until the late registration period
- Ensure registration is completed before the final closure date
Timely registration remains a mandatory academic requirement and failure to comply may attract academic and financial consequences.
