Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare (ASCOEA), has declared a temporary closure of academic and administrative activities. This decision follows a directive from the Bauchi State Government ordering all educational institutions in the state to cease operations due to emerging security concerns.
The college management has provided updated guidance to help students, parents, and staff understand how the temporary shutdown affects daily activities and who is required to remain on duty.
Reason for the Temporary Closure
A circular signed by the Registrar, Abdullahi Babbaji (DPA, BA. Ed, PGD), confirmed that the Bauchi State Government has directed all educational institutions to suspend operations temporarily.
The order applies to:
- Public and private primary schools
- Secondary schools
- Colleges of education and other tertiary institutions
- Federal-owned schools within the state
The state government issued the directive as a precautionary measure in response to ongoing security concerns. ASCOEA is complying fully with the order until further updates are provided by the authorities.
What the Directive Means for Students and Staff
The Provost has directed that the institution will adhere strictly to the government order. As a result:
- Students should not visit the campus for classes, meetings, or any academic-related activity.
- Most administrative and academic staff are not required to report to their offices during the closure.
The suspension aims to ensure safety while allowing the government and security agencies to assess and manage the situation appropriately.
Staff Required to Remain on Duty
While the college is closed, certain essential workers are required to continue reporting to duty for the maintenance of critical services. These include:
- Security personnel assigned to protect college facilities
- Gardeners responsible for maintaining the college grounds
- Borehole operators managing water supply
- Animal handlers caring for livestock owned by the institution
- Clinic staff providing essential medical support on campus
These individuals are expected to remain active to ensure the college retains basic operational stability during the temporary shutdown.
Resumption Timeline
At the moment, no official resumption date has been announced. The college will reopen only after the Bauchi State Government issues further instructions.
Students and staff are advised to rely solely on verified and authorised communication, including:
- Official statements from the Registrar
- Notices issued by the Provost
- Announcements shared via recognised ASCOEA communication channels
Until a new directive is issued, ASCOEA will maintain essential services and await additional guidance from the state government.
