The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a strong warning to students and the general public over a fake message circulating online claiming that the NELFUND Student Loan Registration Portal is currently open.

The misleading message which has now been confirmed as fraudulent directs unsuspecting applicants to a third-party website, gvly.xyz/Nelfund-Student-Loan, a link NELFUND says is unauthorised, unsafe, and potentially harmful.

NELFUND Alerts the Public on X (Twitter)

In an announcement shared on its official X (Twitter) handle on Tuesday, NELFUND urged Nigerians to ignore the fake link, warning that the agency has not opened any new registration portal.

The Fund also emphasised that applicants should never provide personal information on websites not officially approved by NELFUND.

Official Channels Only

NELFUND stressed that:

• All updates regarding the student loan scheme are released only through its verified website
  
• Information from its official social media platforms is reliable
  
• Any press release must originate from authorised NELFUND communication channels
  

The agency cautioned students to be vigilant and avoid sharing suspicious links with others.

NELFUND’s Official Statement

Part of the official statement reads:

“The attention of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has been drawn to a message circulating online claiming that the NELFUND Student Loan Registration Portal is open and directing applicants to a third-party link… This information is FALSE, and the link is FRAUDULENT.”

The Fund added that it has not authorised any individual or organisation to collect student data or process loan applications on its behalf.
