The Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, has officially refuted a false online report alleging that the institution admitted only 942 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
In a strongly worded statement released on November 9, 2025, by the university’s Head of Public Relations, Nnaemeka Ijioma, AIFUE described the report first published on theglittersonline.com.ng and circulated via Opera News as malicious, fabricated, and baseless.
AIFUE Clarifies True Admission Figures
The management confirmed that the accurate admission figure stands at 2,428 students, officially announced during the university’s first matriculation ceremony held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the University Pavilion.
The event, which drew thousands of students, parents, and dignitaries, was presided over by the then Acting Vice-Chancellor, who revealed a detailed breakdown:
- 2,383 undergraduate students (Bachelor’s Degree)
- 45 students (Professional Diploma in Education)
AIFUE noted that multiple reputable sources, including The Nation Newspaper, the university’s official website (www.alvanikoku.edu.ng), and verified social media pages, have published the authentic matriculation statistics further debunking the fake figures circulated online.
Why the Viral Report Is False
According to the university, admissions are processed strictly through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
This system ensures that only verified and approved data from both JAMB and the university are valid. Consequently, the 942-student claim made by the anonymous blogger is unverifiable, misleading, and technically impossible.
AIFUE emphasized that its admission data is transparent and accessible only through official JAMB and AIFUE channels.
AIFUE’s Growth and Academic Achievements
The statement highlighted that AIFUE, formerly a college of education, has trained degree students since 1981 in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Currently, the university boasts a student population of nearly 10,000, including those under the UNN-affiliated programs.
For the 2025/2026 academic session, AIFUE has already released two admission lists, admitting nearly 2,000 new students, with the process ongoing following JAMB’s extension of the national admission deadline to November 17, 2025.
Available programmes include B.A., B.Ed., and B.Sc. degrees in Arts, Education, Sciences, and Technology.

Infrastructure and TETFund Support
AIFUE also highlighted its commitment to providing a conducive academic environment, featuring:
- Experienced lecturers and qualified teaching staff.
- Fully equipped laboratories, workshops, and studios.
- A modern university library with e-library facilities.
- Four student hostels undergoing major rehabilitation through TETFund support.
These facilities, the university noted, reinforce its mission to deliver quality teacher education and professional training in Nigeria.
University Demands Retraction and Apology
In a firm response, AIFUE demanded that theglittersonline.com.ng immediately retract the false article and issue a public apology.
Failure to comply, the university warned, would lead to legal action to protect its reputation and the integrity of its operations.
Final Advisory to the Public
The university called on students, parents, media outlets, and the general public to ignore the misleading publication and rely solely on verified updates from:
- The AIFUE official website
- The Public Relations Office
- The university’s verified social media platforms
AIFUE reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, fairness, and academic excellence, warning that misinformation undermines institutional integrity and public trust.
